When Mitch McConnell made the very honest statement that African Americans and Americans were voting at about the same rate, he was extremely incorrect.
First of all, African-Americans are Americans, hence the name, and if you're reading this blog, then you're probably well aware that this was an instance of Mitch McConnell revealing the way racism works live on C-SPAN.
The issue here, other than blatant racism, is the fact that 2 democrats were the main reason why Congress could not agree, even while holding the majority, to #EndTheFilibuster.
What is the Filibuster you might ask? Simply put, it is a tactic often used by republicans to stall and delay the legislative process. A more formal definition via Google, an action such as a prolonged speech that obstructs progress in a legislative assembly while not technically contravening the required procedures.
Imagine someone just talking for so long that the clock runs out to be able to vote on something or for the proper paperwork to be turned in. Kinda like that. Kinda like being as annoying as possible to stop the U.S. Government from passing much needed reform measures like The Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
For this and several other reasons, Mitch McConnell needs to be voted out expeditiously & that's #SOLID !
I am writing this so that we all are aware of the need to tune in to the calls to end the filibuster, vote in midterm elections, and continue support the passing of both acts mentioned above.
